Puthur, July 4: In a historic step the Qazi of Mangalore paid a visit to Sheikhmale Jamath in order to congratulate the local community for becoming the first Jamath in the country to publicly discard dowry system.
Alhaj Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar also delivered Friday prayer and led the namaaz, in a message to all the jamaaths in the district to emulate the model set by the Sheikhamale Jamath, which was declared as Dowry-free Jamath two months ago.
Soon after the prayer, the Qazi addressed the gathering and said the Sheikmale Jamath has set an example for the entire humankind to follow. He also urged the local jamath members to stick to their pledge and adhere to their commitment until the day of judgment.
The Jamath should take steps for the betterment of the Muslim community along with practicing sharia norms in daily life. The Jamaths should help those families where children have discontinued their education, he said.
Quoting a hadith, he said “a blessed marriage is the one which is simple and devoid of any show'. He urged the Jamaths to take care of the poorer members of their community.
Heaping praise on all the families under the Shelkhmale Jamath, the Qazi called everyone to work towards the empowerment of the society.
Haji Muhammad Haneef, Secretary, Muslim Central Committee, Haneef Puttur, office-bearers of various Jamaths around Puttur, President and Secretary of Sheikhmale Jamath, among others, were present.
