Managluru, Sept 24: Al-haaj P M Ibraheem Musliyar Bekal, the Qadhi of Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Shivamogga amalgam Jama’at, passed away after a brief illness at a private hospital in the city today. He was 71.
He was the president of the Karnataka state unit of Sunni Jamiyyatul Ulama and principal of Jamiya Sa’adiya Arabia Shariat College. He was also serving as the chief editor of Al-Ansar Islamic periodical.
After obtaining Islamic degree from Deoband Arabic college, he had served two years each in Soorinje and Bantwal mosques. And then served as the Mudarris of Bekal for next 43 years.
He was known as ‘Tajul Fuqahaa’ thanks to his proficiency in Islamic Fiqh. He was also interested in astronomy.
He was born in 1949 at Poodal hamlet in Naringana village of Bantwal taluk in Dakshina Kannada district as the son of Mumhammad and Khadeeja couple.
The veteran Islamic scholar is survived by his wife, three sons, two daughters and a large number of relatives, and disciples.
