Mangaluru, Mar 15: Banking services are hit in the coastal district of Dakshina today as as the United Forum of Bank Unions’ (UFBU) two-day strike (March 15 and 16) commenced across the nation.
The strike has been called to protest against the Centre's proposal to privatise two public sector banks.
As part of strike, hundreds of bankers from across Dakshina Kannada today gathered near the Balmatta Circle in Mangaluru the morning and raised slogans against the union government’s policies. They also staged a protest in front of mini Vidhana Soudha in the city.
Over 2,000 employees in this coastal district have joined the strike which is expected to end tomorrow evening.
Services such as deposits and withdrawal at branches, cheque clearance, and loan approvals are affected due to the strike. However, ATMs are likely to remain functional.
All nine banks unions namely All India Bank Officers' Confederation (AIBOC), All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), National Confederation of Bank Employees (NCBE), All India Bank Officers' Confederation (AIBOC), Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI), Indian National Bank Employees Federation (INBEF), Indian National Bank Officers' Congress (INBOC) and National Organisation of Bank Officers (NOBO) and the National Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW) are part of the strike called by the UFBU.
