Udupi, Oct 9: Dr TMA Pai hospital achieved a significant milestone by successfully helping 50 pregnant women, who were also Covid-19 positive, deliver babies.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology had begun conducting deliveries since May 27 and the 50th pregnant woman who was tested positive for Covid-19 delivered a baby without any complications.
With recent studies highlighting that newborn babies could contract the infection from mother, the hospital had taken stringent measures to make sure that the mother and baby are healthy and free from Covid-19 and other infections.
In a statement here on Friday, Dr Shashikala K Bhat, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology department, said all the deliveries took place without any hassles. The Department of Pediatrics took good care of new-born babies.
Mothers and new-born babies were given special care in separate sections to ensure the safety of the newborn babies.
"We also made sure that the patients did not face any post Covid-19 complications that could have a negative impact on both the health of mother and the baby," Dr Shashikala Bhat said.
