Belagavi, Dec 13: Opposition leader in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today demanded the State government to drop the idea of building Disney Land amusement park at the cost of Rs 1500 crore at Krishnaraja Sagar Reservoir and complete the pending works in Upper Krishna river as millions of farmers have been denied irrigation facilities for over a decade.
Intervening during question hour in the Legislative Assembly when BJP member Govind Karjol had posed a question to Minister for Water Resources D K Shivakumar regarding long delay in taking up the Upper Krishna canal project, Mr Yeddyurappa said the government should give priority to complete all pending irrigation project rather than planning the amusement park at KRS dam across Cauvery in Mandya district.
The government should earmark more funds towards Krishna projects and follow the order of Brajesh Mishra Tribunal given to utilise the additional allocation of 173 TMC Ft of Krishna waters by Karnataka. It has been eight years since the tribunal had given its award but farmers are still denied Krishna waters in North Karnataka as Karnataka has failed to utilise the allocation. Not a single project in Upper Krishna has been taken up. The government should explain why it was denying the farmers their due, he demanded.
Mr Shivakumar said the government was serious on implementing Upper Krishna project and it was ready to discuss the issue in detail on the floor of the house. The works will be taken soon and sufficient funds will be allocated.
He said the government was not using any government funds for Disney Land as it will be built by a private promoter. The government is ready to give all details on the floor of the house, he promised.
