Mangaluru, Sep 16: The office of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (Administration) in Mangaluru will not be shifted to Goa, according to Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath.
The statement comes following widespread opposition to the reported move of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to abolish the office of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax in Mangaluru and merge it with the office of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Panaji.
Speaking to media persons in the city today, the MLA claimed that there was no such proposal by the CBDT.
"The I-T office in Mangaluru has a principal commissioner, and so does the I-T office in Goa. There is a proposal to combine both the designations and appoint one principal commissioner. Under the circumstances, only the position of principal commissioner of Mangaluru may get shifted to Goa. But the news that the entire office in Mangaluru is getting merged with the office in Goa is far from the truth," he said.
Mangaluru, which is the administrative headquarters of the Dakshina Kannada district, is a commercial, industrial, educational, healthcare and start-up hub.
