Hubballi, Oct 10: With the COVID-19 disease spreading uncontrolled, former state education minister and JD(S) leader Basavaraj Horatti urged the state government to declare the current academic year as an examination free year.
Speaking at an election campaign for the JD(S) Candidate Shivashankar Channappa Kallura for the ensuing Karnataka Legislative Council election from the graduates constituency here today, he said that more than 100 teachers have succumbed to the pandemic in the state.
Opening of the schools might result in exposing both the teachers and students community to the pandemic, the JD(S) leader said added, "There is a need to tread a cautious step before opening up of schools in the state."
The JD(S) leader had also charged that the state government was doing nothing to generate jobs, as the number of unemployment among the graduates is surging in the state.
He said that his party will fight the election on the basis of its achievements and hoped it would emerge victorious.
