Karnataka BJP chief Nalin Kumar Kateel tests positive for coronavirus

Bengaluru: BJP Karnataka state unit President Nalin Kumar Kateel on Sunday said he has tested positive for COVID-19 but was asymptomatic.

"I underwent COVID-19 test and the reports have come out as positive. Despite being asymptomatic, on the advice of the doctors, I'm getting hospitalised," Kateel, also a member of Lok Sabha from Dakshina Kannada constituency, tweeted.

Expressing confidence that with the blessings and good wishes from everyone he will recover and get back soon, the 53-year-old requested all those who had come in contact with him to be cautious.

Kateel, who recently completed one year in the party post, has been travelling across the state and holding meetings at several districts strengthening the organisation.

Earlier several senior politicians in the state including Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah, Congress state President D K Shivakumar had tested positive for coronavirus.

While Yediyurappa and Siddaramaiah have been discharged, Shivakumar is undergoing treatment.

Several ministers of the state government, also legislators have tested positive and are under medication.

14-year-old boy struck by lightning while sitting outside home in Dakshina Kannada

Mangaluru: A 14-year-old boy, Subodh, tragically lost his life after being struck by lightning while sitting outside his home in Kedila village, Bantwal taluk, on Sunday evening.

The incident occurred around 5:30 PM while Subodh, an 8th-grade student at Kalladka Shriram High School, was seated outside his house. Lightning struck him, leaving him unconscious.

Family members rushed him to a nearby clinic and later to a private hospital in Puttur, where doctors confirmed his death upon arrival.

The boy's body was sent to Puttur Government Hospital for a post-mortem.

Tahsildar Archana Bhat has directed revenue officials to assist the grieving family. Vitla Revenue Inspector Prashanth Shetty, Village Administrative Officer Anil Kumar, Kedila Panchayat President Harish Valtaje, and panchayat members visited the family to offer their condolences and support.

This heartbreaking incident highlights the unpredictability of nature’s fury, leaving a community mourning the untimely loss of a young life.
