Bengaluru, Dec 11: Legislators, irrespective of their party affiliation, participating in the discussion on drought condition in the State, expressed anger over PSU and Commercial banks not agreeing to Karnataka government’s proposal to waive off farm loans up to Rs 2 lakh availed by farmers and suggested the government to withdraw all its deposits in these banks if they were not agreeing for government's terms.
The Janata Dal(S)-Congress coalition government had announced Rs 34,000 crore loan waiver scheme benefiting over 21 lakh farmers. While State government controlled Cooperative banks had followed, the PSU and Commercial banks had refused to waive off the interest accrued and are insisting the State government to reimburse including pending interest amount.
Participating in a adjournment motion moved by Opposition Leader B S Yeddyurappa, the legislators who spoke took strong exception over the delay in finalising farm loans waiver by PSU and Commercial banks.
Earlier in the day, Yeddyurappa took the ruling coalition government to task and stated that the ruling combine has utterly failed to bring relief to the people suffering from drought conditions in over 100 out of 176 Taluks in the State.
