Loan Waiver: DC hold talks with Axis Bank on issue of arrest warrant to Farmers

Belagavi, Nov 7: District Deputy Commissioner S B Bommanahalli held discussion with Axis Bank officials here on Wednesday following farmers recent protest against arrest warrants issued by the Bank for loan recovery despite the Karnataka Government announcing waiver of loan taken by farmers from Commercial Banks and Cooperative institutions.

After farmers protest the Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had asked Deputy Commissioner to hold talks with Bank officials and advise not to goahed with the arrest warrant and insist on recovery as his discussion with the Banks on the issue is in final stage.

Recently Axis Bank sent notice and arrest warrants to the Enagi village farmers in the district through Kolkatta court.

Many farmers’ organization and farmer’s leaders condemned and staged protest in front of Axis Banks in the state”.

Mr Bommanahalli said that about 180 farmers have taken Agriculture loan from in Axis Bank, around 60 per cent before 2009 and remaining after 2009, Around 50 per cent cases related crop loan and other cases related Tractor, pipe line, land development etc.
