Dhamrasthala, Feb 16: Thousands of devotees witnessed the Mahamastakabhisheka to 39 ft tall monolithic statue of Bahubali which began on Saturday at Ratnagiri of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala.
Dharmadhikari of Shrikshetra Dharmastala D Veerendra Heggade initiated the process with 'Jalabhisheka' by pouring water kept in the 'Kalashas' over the statue.
After Mr. Heggade and his family members, Charukeerti Bhattaraka Swami from Shravanbelagola and Bhattarakas from Karkala performed the abhisheka.
Devotees queued to climb up the scaffolding and do the abhisheka. Water kept in 1008 kalasha was used to perform the ritual. As the abhisheka was performed, devotional songs were sung by artists seated near the statue.
People from different parts of the state are coming to see this ritual that started on February 9. This is the fourth Mahamastakabhisheka since consecration of the statue in Dharmastala in 1982.
Two-floor gallery flanking the statue has been laid for people to witness the spectacle. The Mahamastakabhisheka is held once in 12 years.
