Mangaluru, Oct 11: A local court today sentenced a youth to rigorous life imprisonment for killing his octogenarian father at Kairangala near Moobidri in Dakshina Kannada district in April 2017.
Principal District and Sessions Judge Kadloor Sathyanaraya Acharya on Tuesday had found 33-year-old Dolphy Goveas guilty of murdering his father, Paul Goveas (83), and assaulting his brother, Stany Goveas.
According to the chargesheet by the Moodbidri police, Dolphy was reportedly unhappy with his father and his brother for the latter’s allegation about his involvement in his mother’s death in January 2015.
On April 14, 2017, Dolphy stabbed his father with a sharp weapon when Stany had gone to church. When Stany returned home, Dolphy hit him and ran away.
Case was investigated by Moodbidiri police inspector Ramachandra Naik. There was total of 36 witnesses. Dolphy Goveas was booked under IPC section 302, 307, 201, 427 and 447.
The judge pronounced the quantum of punishment on Thursday. He awarded rigorous life imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 10,000 for murdering father. The convict will have to serve six months of imprisonment in case he fails to pay the penalty. He also awarded 10 years in jail for attempt murder and a penalty of Rs 10,000.
