Benngaluru, Feb 26: The National Investigation Agency’s charge-sheet in Bengaluru’s DJ Halli and KG Halli violence case (August 2020) was in fact filed under the supervision and guidance of Sangh Parivar, according to Social Democratic Party of India.

Addressing a press conference today here, Advocate Majid Khan, the vice president of Karnataka unit of SDPI, said that the Narendra Modi government handed over the case to NIA while the Bengaluru CCB was still investigating the case. “As per the direction of the BJP government, the NIA filed an FIR against SDPI in Delhi before start of their investigation itself. In the last six months of NIA investigation, more than 2000 individuals were subjected to interrogation. Most of them were general local people of those areas, few belong to Congress, JDS, AAP, SDPI, etc. It should be noted that, in Bengaluru CCB charge-sheet Congress leader Sampath Raj and other congress corporators, a few leaders of the JDS and SDPI were named”

“In NIA charge sheet it is mentioned that, both Fairoz (a former Congressman and presently in AAP) and Naveen (an activist of the Sangh Parivar), used to post anti-religious statements regularly on social media. Naveen had uploaded derogatory content against Prophet Mohammed (SA) on social media in response to Fairoz post. However, Naveen was released on bail as he was booked under simple IPC sections. Whereas, Feroz was booked under the UAPA along with other Muslim youths. Investigators have claimed that the Facebook posts of these two persons were the main cause of the violence. However, at the same time they have exhibited communal discrimination.”

“Former Mayor Mr Sampat Raj and other congress corporators were given clean chit by NIA, whereas Bengaluru CCB had called them as the masterminds of these incidents. Even till date MLA Akhanda Srinivas Murthy believes Sampat Raj as the main person involved in this conspiracy”

He said: “From the day one, NIA was investigating the case focusing only on SDPI. We can see similarity of framing and accusing many Dalit leaders, human rights organization and anti-CAA activists under UAPA cases across the nation. Hundreds of students and activist have been arrested in Delhi under sedition case just because they had participated in anti-CAA and anti-NRC protest.”

In an independent investigation report released by retired Justice Nagamohan Das on the Bengaluru violence, he has clearly mentioned that main cause of the violence is the failure of the state government, its intelligence department, he said accusing the investigation agencies of wilfully targeting SDPI and people of a particular community.

“Since the beginning we have been demanding the state government to order an impartial enquiry under the supervision of a High Court judge. Now, it is clear that investigators have been pressurized to target SDPI and people from a particular community,” he said.

Afsar Kodlipate,  Akram Hasan, Fayaz Ahmed, H M Gangappa were present at the press meet.

Bengaluru: An eight-month old baby has been detected with the human metapneumovirus (HMPV) in a Bengaluru hospital on Monday, with reports going viral online. This is likely the first reported case of HMPV in the country after the recent spike in China.

The baby is reportedly undergoing treatment in a private hospital in northern Bengaluru.

The Karnataka state health department has maintained that there is no cause for concern.

"We don't know what strain of virus is spreading in China. Without knowing that, we cannot say that this reported case is concerning. We have been reviewing all influenza-like illnesses (ILIs) from December to check for any strain that is concerning. There is no such concerning spike across the state or country," said a well-placed source in the state health department.

The HMPV is a known virus (first discovered in 2001) that causes respiratory symptoms similar to that of a common cold, largely affecting children below the age of five. It is not a new virus.

Cases have been reported in the past, especially in the winter season, note experts and health department officials, making it not an immediate concern, unless an unusual spike is observed.

In December 2024, 714 suspected cases of HMPV were tested in 16 Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDLs) across the country, of which only nine were confirmed positive.

Mangaluru: In a shocking case of fraud, six individuals posing as officials from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) swindled a beedi businessman of Rs 25 to 30 lakh in cash and five mobile phones at Kolnad in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada on Friday night.

The incident came to light after Mohammed Iqbal, 27, lodged a complaint with the police, stating that his father, a beedi trader, was targeted by the imposters.

According to the complaint, the six accused arrived at the businessman’s residence around 8:10 pm in a car with Tamil Nadu registration plates. Claiming to be ED officials, they announced that they had orders to search the house and began confiscating mobile phones from the family members.

The fraudsters reportedly discovered Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh in cash, which the businessman had kept aside for business purposes. They claimed that keeping such a large amount was illegal and threatened to arrest him unless he complied. By 10:30 pm, the group left the house, instructing the businessman to submit documents at the ED office in Bengaluru to reclaim the money.

Later, upon discussing the incident with his family, Iqbal realized that the individuals were not ED officials but fraudsters who had impersonated authorities to rob them.

A case has been registered at Vittal Police Station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. An investigation is underway, and the police have promised swift action to apprehend the culprits.

Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Yathish N, along with senior officers, visited the crime scene and assured the family that the perpetrators would be brought to justice at the earliest.

Mangaluru: The long-awaited DC office complex in Padil is nearing completion, with plans underway to inaugurate the facility during Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s visit to Mangaluru for the State Olympics meet on January 17. Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U T Khader inspected the site and emphasized the urgency of completing the ₹75 crore project within the set deadline.

“We aim to finish the work by January 10 so that the inauguration can align with the Chief Minister’s visit. However, the final decision will depend on the project’s readiness by then,” Khader stated during his site inspection.

The ambitious project, reflecting the rich Tulu Nadu heritage in its design, received administrative approval on April 28, 2015. Following delays, the work order was issued on February 3, 2018, and construction began on March 17, 2018. Khader assured that the building's traditional architecture will extend to its surroundings, including an aesthetically designed entrance gate.

Spread across 5.89 acres, the complex boasts a total plinth area of 21,054.88 sq m, encompassing multiple levels:

Basement: 4043.88 sq m
Ground Floor: 7553.36 sq m
First Floor: 4158.94 sq m
Second and Third Floors: 2561.28 sq m each
Roof 1 and 2: 88.07 sq m each

The facility aims to centralize government services by housing most departments—except Revenue and RDPR—under one roof. This initiative, Khader highlighted, will streamline operations, save time, and enhance convenience for both officials and the public.

"Officials have been directed to expedite the remaining work, ensuring its timely completion," he added, reaffirming the government’s commitment to creating a functional and visually iconic administrative hub for the region.
