Mysuru, Jan 23: Though the state government had declared a one-day holiday on Tuesday for all educational institutions in the state as a mark of respect to Shivakumara Swami, Demonstration School in Mysuru, a constituent unit of Regional Institute of Educationin Mysuru, was open.

This did not go down well with several parents.

Yagnamurthy Sreekanth, principal of Regional Institute of Education, Mysuru, said “Actually it is a central government organization, not a state government organization. The central government has to declare a holiday for us.” The principal said that the college and school observed a two-minute silence and spoke about the Swami’s contribution to society.

When this was brought to the notice of deputy commissioner Abhiram Sankar he said, “I will speak to authorities concerned and see that such things do not recur.”
