India elected to bat after winning the toss on Day 1 of third Test between India and England from the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The series is tied 1-1 and it makes this Test a pivotal one for both teams.

India have a wonderful record at the Eden Gardens. They have not lost a Test here since 1999 when they lost to Pakistan in the Asian Test championship. Egged on by a crowd that approaches close to 60,000, India certainly hold the edge.

Teams:

England (Playing XI): Alastair Cook(c), Nick Compton, Jonathan Trott, Kevin Pietersen, Ian Bell, Samit Patel, Matt Prior(w), Graeme Swann, James Anderson, Steven Finn, Monty Panesar

India (Playing XI): Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Cheteshwar Pujara, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni(w/c), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ishant Sharma, Zaheer Khan, Pragyan Ojha
