Kolkata, Nov 8: Rohit Sharma hit an unbeaten 150 while R Ashwin, too, scored his second career Test century to put India in a strong position in the first session on Day 3 of the first Test against West Indies at Eden Gardens on Friday. Ashwin reached his century with a single off Tino Best. He took 159
balls overall and struck 11 boundaries to complete his ton.
Sharma looked solid with his defence and was not in a mood to let go of any scoring opportunity. India reached the 400-run mark in 114th over.
Both have stitched together a partnership of a strong 250- run mark after the Indian batting line-up collapsed on the second day of the Test.
On Thursday, West Indies bowler Shane Shillingford wreaked havoc with a sensational four-wicket haul that included the ultimate prize of Sachin Tendulkar.
Shillingford (4/130) troubled the Indians with his accurate line and length but Tendulkar was very unlucky to be adjudged leg before by umpire Nigel Llong.
He undoubtedly beat the retiring-legend with a 'doosra' but the ball hit Tendulkar high on the back thigh and the TV replays suggested that the ball would have gone over the stumps.
Tendulkar (10) looked in good touch as he hit two magnificent boundaries before umpire cut short his stay at the crease. As he walked back, Tendulkar got a standing ovation from the crowd at Eden Gardens.
