Davanagere, Feb 10: A 30-year-old woman and her three children were killed when the stone roof of their house collapsed in Ramajogihalli village of Challakere taluk in Chitradurga district in the wee hours of Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Nagaratna, her daughter Yashashwini, 5, and sons Thirthavardhana, 3, and one-and-a-half-year-old Komal.
The roof caved in around 4.50am, trapping the inmates under debris and a pile of mud. The roof was said to be made of stone slabs, along with wooden beams bounded by ordinary mud.
Neighbours rushed to the residents’ help as soon as they heard a loud noise. They broke open the door and tried to rescue those caught under the debris. But they could pull out only two of them alive.
Nagaratna’s husband Chandrashekar, 40, a farmer, and his sister’s daughter Devika,12, had a miraculous escape. They sustained minor injuries. They were treated at Chitradurga district hospital and were discharged by evening.
