Former minister Varthur R Prakash has said that he would float his new political party ‘Namma Congress’ on December 31 at Kudalasangama in Bagalkot district. Around 3 lakh people from across Karnataka are expected to attend the first convention, he said.
He told media persons that he has identified around 70 constituencies for fielding candidates from the party in the coming Assembly election.
Prakash, who is currently an independent Member of Legislative Assembly from the Kolar segment, accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of neglecting the Kuruba community.
"Siddaramaiah emerged as a tall leader in Karnataka due to the support of Ahinda (Kannada acronym for backward classes, Dalits and minorities). But he has let them down. Instead, he is promoting family politics in the Congress," he charged.
Speaking of the reason behind choosing Kudalasangama, Prakash said that it was the birthplace of Basavanna.
“The party will be on the lines of AHINDA principles and will be named ‘Namma Congress’,” Prakash said. The MLA is considered a strong leader of the Kuruba community. He was also a close confidant Siddaramaiah in the past.
