Hubballi, Oct 25: Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Jagadish Shettar said on Tuesday that they had no problem if Tipu Jayanti celebrations were organised by private people.
“We have never opposed if the event is by private parties. But it is not right to organise
the celebration on behalf of the government,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters in the city. “I was gifted a headgear and a sword at a programme on Tipu Sultan organised by the minority morcha of the BJP. He had killed many Hindus. Onake Obavva of Chitradurga was also killed during Hyder Ali’s period. He had tortured Christians too,” he said.
He said the state government should waive farmers’ loans on the lines of Uttar Pradesh, where farm loans up to Rs 1 lakh have been waived.
