Bengaluru, Jun 2: The differences between coalition partners Congress and JD(S) came to the fore again on Friday as the oath-taking ceremony of former Congress MLA GA Bava as chairman of the Karnataka State Minority Commission was cancelled at the last minute. Bava was scheduled to take oath at 4pm, but the ceremony was stopped by senior Congress leaders.
Sources say AICC president Rahul Gandhi had cleared the name of former minister AM Hindasageri for the post and KPCC president Dinesh Gundurao, in December 2018, had written to chief minister HD Kumaraswamy in this regard. However, Hindasageri’s appointment was delayed due to various reasons including the Lok Sabha elections.
In the meanwhile, minority affairs minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan is said to have prevailed on Kumaraswamy and got Bava appointed instead. Irked by the development, Congress leaders including AICC general secretary KC Venugopal and CLP leader Siddaramaiah are said to stopped Bava from taking oath.
When contacted Bava claimed a gazette notification on his appointment had been issued, but he refused to share a copy of the notification. “I came late and so the oath-taking function was postponed,” Bava claimed.
