Dammam: Prominent members across various segments of the Indian community residing in the Eastern Province, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia met on Saturday 21st Dec 2019 in Dammam, to share their views on the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the planned implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR).

The members expressed their anguish that the CAA is both unconstitutional due to its selective bias based on religion, and discriminatory.

The members were also concerned that this law can be misused by the various government agencies, to harass the poor and weaker sections of the society by peddling fear of disenfranchisement.

The members also drew attention of the community towards the unprecedented high handedness of the BJP ruled state governments, in using police force to suffocate the peaceful protests of students and citizens. They called upon those state governments to initiate stringent action against those responsible and ensure that the victims of oppression are provided help and justice.

The members unanimously opposed the unconstitutional law and decided that they will raise their voice against the CAA & NRC/NPR and protect the constitution of India and the high status of India as a democratic, peaceful and secular state.

The members urge the Indian government to withdraw the CAA and also call upon all Indian citizens to boycott NCR & NPR.
