Mangalore, Nov 24: Dakshina Kannada District in-charge Minister Ramanath Rai has said that Panchayat Raj system has brought about social reformation.
Addressing the convention of Dakshina Kannada district Gram Panchayat members held at Rangoli hall at B C Road, Mr Rai said that some years ago, only the economically sound persons used to get elected to the Gram Panchayats, but today the face of the Panchayats has changed due to the reservation system.
He said that the Panchayat Prathinidhigala Okkuta should continue to demand for more fund allocation to the Panchayats.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated the convention and said that Government must provide a sum of Rs 1 crore for every Panchayat annually and in this regard the elected representatives have to fight forgetting their differences.
Health awareness workshop
Minister for Health U T Khader said that all the elected representatives will be given health awareness workshop so that they can disseminate the message of health among the people and thereby contribute to a healthy society.
Zilla Panchayat President Koragappa Naika presided over the programme.
Zilla Panchayat CEO Tulasi Maddineni, MLAs Shakunthala Shetty, Moideen Bava, MLC Prathapchandra Shetty, Kota Srinivas Shetty among others were present.
Demands
The convention kept forth certain demands which included meeting the demands kept forth during the 2004 Belur convention, implementation of III Finance Committee recommendations, hiking the honorarium of the GP members, appointment to various vacancies and providing additional manpower.
