Bengaluru, Jan 5: Taking a dig at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for staying away from Parliament during a debate on the Rafale fighter jet, former prime minister H D Deve Gowda said that “It will not augur well for the Parliamentary Institution''.
Addressing a press conference here today, Mr Gowda said that “When the prime minister was facing a volley of charges from the Opposition on the Rafale deal, Modi had fielded the defence minister to answer instead of coming to the defence of his government”.
Maintaining that Prime minister, instead of avoiding the Lok Sabha and speak through a news agency, Mr Gowda said “Prime minister must have been present in the Parliament and answer the issues raised from the Opposition leaders”.
“Prime minister Narendra Modi has not set a good precedent by shying away from attending the Parliament during the debate and should have courtesy to sit and heard the opposition ” he added.
