Bengaluru, Nov 20: A policeman has been arrested on the charge of raping a woman home guard after she complained against the former for misbehaving with her in Karnataka’s capital.
The alleged rape took place on Saturday night in the house of the victim, a 27-year-old home guard is posted on the Bangalore University campus. The accused, Chandrakumar alias Chandrashekhar, 36 a constable attached to the jurisdictional Jnanabharathi police station, was arrested on Monday.
It all started around a fortnight ago when Chandrakumar came to the university and struck up a conversation with the home guard. He later took her phone number and started calling her. Last week, he forcibly dropped her off at home. On Saturday, he came to the university and touched her inappropriately while talking to her.
Chandrakumar proposed to her and promised a separate house. She spurned him and brought the matter to the notice of senior officers. She also went to the Jnanabharathi police station and complained to the inspector, G Y Giriraj.
The inspector summoned Chandrakumar and warned him of a departmental inquiry and possible suspension if he repeated the act. The home guard didn’t file a complaint and went home.
Chandrakumar apparently didn’t pay heed to the inspector’s warning. He followed the home guard. Moments after she went and started changing her clothes, he knocked on the door. She thought it was her husband and opened the door.
Chandrakumar pushed her in, locked the door and raped her. He poured water to destroy the evidence and ran away. DCP (North) Chetan Singh Rathore said they arrested Chandrakumar after a detailed investigation. They are reviewing the CCTV footage of the university and waiting for a medical report.
