Priyanka Chopra gets flak for ‘Hindu terror’ plot on Quantico

Hypernationalist trolls are furious at Bollywood film star Priyanka Chopra after an American TV drama centering on her role as an FBI agent showed her foiling a Hindu extremist plot to carry out a nuclear attack on New York City and blame Pakistan for it.

Calling the fictional plot a “betrayal” and arguing that such a scenario is improbable if not impossible, a group calling itself “Hindu Americans” is proposing a boycott of her work and of advertisers supporting her work. “She has crossed a line with her garbage lying attack on peaceful Hindus. Shame on her!” the group under the handle @HinduAmericans posted on Twitter.

Ultimately, the problem is not this airhead @PriyankaChopra. The problem is by joining the Western media system, you become a slave of its anti-Eastern, anti-India agenda. These Western men who wrote this script are anti-Hindu, anti-Indian. She's a servant of these sick bastards.

Lucknow-born Chopra, who was raised partly in the US, was praised for breaking through the tough US TV drama market after she landed a lead role as FBI Agent Alex Parish in Quantico. The drama has had modest ratings since it launched in 2016, and it is reportedly being canned; its third season its last.

In an episode aired last week, Parish (Priyanka) foils a plot by “Hindu extremists” to carry out a nuclear attack in Manhattan and frame Pakistanis for it shortly before a summit on Kashmir. She uncovers the plot after noticing a Hindu symbol — the rudraksha mala — on a chain worn by one of the “terrorists.”

Implicating Hindus and their religious symbol in a terrorist plot, albeit fictional, has driven many hypernationalists stir crazy, even as many of them have relished the all-too-frequent portrayal of Muslims, particularly Pakistanis as terrorists, and argued that is closer to reality.

Priyanka was also pilloried for “cheating fellow Indians…1st by selectively sympathising wit socalled #rohingya refugees under d garb of unicef while conveniently ignoring many others elsewhere.”
