Protesters denounce attempt to spread communal violence; hold 'inactive' Congress government responsible

Mangalore, Jan 8: Around 1000 people gathered in front of Deputy Commissioner's office in Mangalore on Wednesday evening demanding stringent action against those who try to spread communal hatred in the society. The event was organized by Popular Front of India to create public awareness against the Sangh Parivar's alleged attempt to trigger communal violence across the state.

The speakers who addressed the gathering mainly targeted RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat and NaMo Brigade leader Chakravarthy Sulibele for their vulgar and communally provocative speeches at a Hindu Sangama recently held in Gurpur, recently. The protesters raised slogans against Kalldka Bhat and called him a “mentally ill” and “communal” leader.

In his address, SDPI leader Anwar Sadat said that Congress government of Karnataka has miserably failed to take action against communal goons and criminals who spread hatred between Hindus and Muslims.

Criticizing Sangh Parivar for its attempt to give communal tinge to Deralakatte forced sex case, wherein a group of miscreants forced a boy and a girl to have sex in front of camera, Mr Sadat said that communal forces are trying to take advantage of a heinous crime.

“Shame on Congress government, which came to power a few months ago, with a false promise of curbing communal forces. It has not taken any steps to prevent increasing communal activities,” he said urging the district administration and police department to take immediate legal action against Kalladka Bhat.

Questioning the morality of Kalladka Bhat, he said that the RSS leader has no moral rights to question Muslims. “He himself has indulged in immoral acts in public. If he speaks about Hindu culture then, we seen have his true culture,” he said.

Abdul Razzak, vice president of PFI state committee, said that Kalladka Bhat has been exploiting lower caste people for many years to implement his communal ideology. “If Bhat is willing to know about Islam then PFI is ready to teach him. Let him stop spreading the seeds of communalism,” he said.

Criticizing Kalladka Bhat's racist comments against Islamic practices and rituals such as Hijab and circumcision (Sunnath), Ananda Mittabail, Dalit Sangharsha Samiti leader, said: “If circumcision is meant only for Muslims, then even being a Hindu I should call myself a Muslim. Does Kalladka Bhat have any answer? He seems to be mentally retired and need to get admitted to a mental hospital.”

He said that DSS is launching public meet and lending its support to PFI against communal forces from January 26. “This is to show that Dalits and Muslims are no vote banks and they have rights to lead a peaceful life,” he added.

Hameed Kandak, vice president of Muslim Central Committee, Mangalore, Muslim activist Rafeeuddin Kudroli were also present among others.

Later, a memorandum addressed to Home Minister K J George was handed over to Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim by the PFI leaders. The memorandum demanded immediate legal action against Kalladka Bhat, Chakravarthy Sulibele and other communal leaders who tried to spread communal hatred.

Lokayukta team arrives at disputed plot; CM likely to get ED summons

Mysuru, Oct 1: The Karnataka Lokayukta team on Tuesday arrived at the disputed plot in Mysuru and began investigation into the MUDA case against CM Siddaramaiah and his wife, news agency ANI reported. Snehamayi Krishna, the complainant in the case was also present with the team.

Sources stated that ED sleuths might issue a notice to CM Siddaramaiah at any time and issue summons to him for questioning. The sleuths are also keenly watching the movements of CM Siddaramaiah’s close associates and relatives, including a cabinet minister in connection with the MUDA scam.

Sources further said that there is a possibility of the ED conducting raids across the state on offices and residences of close associates of CM Siddaramaiah. The ED has also gathered information on bank accounts and financial transactions of CM Siddaramaiah and his associates.

The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on Monday registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR), equivalent to an FIR by the police, against CM Siddaramaiah over the alleged irregularities in the allotment of 14 sites to his wife Parvathi B.M. by the Mysore Urban Development Authority. The ED registered the case taking cognisance of the FIR registered against the Chief Minister by the Lokayukta police on September 27.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka Lokayukta probing the MUDA case has also expedited the probe. The sleuths led by Mysuru Lokayukta SP T.J. Udesh have visited the controversial land on the outskirts of Mysuru city. The petitioner, Snehamayi Krishna, also accompanied the team.

The move of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife to return 14 sites allotted by the MUDA to her has triggered a debate. BJP MLA from Mysuru T.S. Srivatsa stated on Tuesday that the move of CM’s wife is not acceptable. "The two commissioners who colluded in the MUDA scam are roaming freely even today," he said.

"CM Siddaramaiah first claimed that there was no scam at all. Later, he formed a commission and now there is an FIR against him. After committing the mistake, you offer to return the sale deed. The time is up. He will have to tender his resignation and I am sure he won’t be in the position until Dasara festivities," MLA T.S. Srivatsa stated.

T.J. Abraham, one of the petitioners in the MUDA case said, “I had demanded the MUDA commissioner to take back the allotted sites. He had written back saying the process would be initiated. They were waiting for the investigation report."

"CM Siddaramaiah has not approached the division bench or the Supreme Court to challenge the order against him because there is nothing to be challenged. Returning sites is not a big sacrifice. The Chief Minister has lost it," Abraham stated.
