Pune, Jul 21: A Pune-based techie bled to death on road after several passerbys chose to click pictures and shoot videos, instead of helping him reach hospital.
Twenty-five-year-old Satish Prabhakar Mete, a software engineer by profession, was severely injured in a hit-and-run accident case at Indrayaninagar corner in Bhosari on Wednesday evening. Several onlookers stopped to look at him and started clicking pictures.
Bhosari-based dentist Kartikraj Kate, who was on his way to the clinic, was one of the first to stop and help Mete.
He said Mete was lying on the road, bleeding profusely, while his face was covered with cloth.
"He was moving his hands and legs. People had gathered around him. Some clicked photographs of the accident scene, while some one shot a video too. But none of them was ready to help him," Kate said.
Kate then stopped an auto-rickshaw passing by the accident site. The driver requested the passengers sitting in the auto to get down, so that he could take the victim to the hospital.
The duo took Mete to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital in Pimpri. On their way to the hospital, Kate noticed that the victim, who had several head injuries, was bleeding from nose and ears, and had tyre marks on the stomach. He tried to give cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but the victim stopped responding. The doctors declared him dead in the hospital.
"His life could have been saved had the onlookers around taken him to the hospital immediately," said Kate.
Mete hailed from Aurangabad and was living in Pune's Moshi region and working in Bhosari.
Police has requested people to come forward with information related to the case and contact on 020-27130003.
