Mangalore, Dec 16: R Hithendra took charge as the new City Police Commissioner on Monday. His predecessor Manish Karbikar will take charge as DIG Karnataka State Reserve Police. A 1996 batch IPS officer, R Hithendra was serving as Deputy Inspector General of Police (Prison).
Speaking to reporters here on Monday after taking charge, R Hithendra said that he will make a study of the prevailing situation in the city and then initiate action against communal forces and underworld elements, which are active in the region.
Seeking media support in order to maintain law and order in the city, he said that media plays crucial role in creating awareness among general public.
Responding to a question on recent clash between two groups in the jail, Hithendra said that there are three groups in the jail, and all of these trouble makers will be shifted to some other jails in coming days.
In addition to this he opined that as it is difficult to produce jail inmates before the courts every often, video conference facility should be provided in all the courts.
At present, he said only one court in Mangalore has been facilitated with video conferencing system.
Mr Hitendra has Bachelors degree in Electronic Engineering. He had served as Superintendent of CBI, banking security and fraud cell. He had supervised the sensitive cases and high profile cases involving bureaucrats and politicians, entrusted by the Supreme Court. He was promoted as Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2010. R Hithendra was also awarded Indian Police medal for meritorious services on 2012 Independence Day.
