Rahul Dravid tipped to be new Under-19, A team coach: Report

June 3, 2015

New Delhi, Jun 3: On Monday Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) welcomed prominent former Indian cricketers – Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman – in their newly-constituted advisory committee. But one former stalwart from the Fab four, which was missing from the list was 'The Wall', Rahul Dravid.

It certainly raised few eyebrows as initially after the BCCI's Working Committee meeting on April 26, few media reports suggested that the board was keen on availing the services of Tendulkar, Ganguly and Dravid as advisors.

Suspense over a role for former captain Rahul Dravid in the BCCI continued on Tuesday with Board Secretary Anurag Thakur saying that his services would be sought at an appropriate time.

"For any cricketer of that stature, BCCI would like to have their services. When the time comes, an announcement will be made. Not everybody can be on the same panel,” Thakur said explaining Dravid's absence from the newly-constituted BCCI cricket advisory panel.

As per ESPNCricinfo, the Indian board wants Dravid to take up the coaching role for India Under-19 and A teams.

Apparently Dravid is not in favour of an advisory role and expects himself to be of more use via involvement with Indian cricket.

Considering his performance as mentor with the Rajasthan Royals, Dravid would indeed make a fine appointment at the junior level.

It is also being reported that Dravid is not very keen on filling the vacant position of coach for the senior team due to time constraints.
