Bantwal, Jul 19: Incessant rains since last two days have wreaked havoc in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district. Normal life was thrown out of gear across the taluk thanks to heavy rains and a series of rain-related tragedies.
The water-level in most of the rivers in the region has increased considerably. In River Nethravati the water level reached 6.8 metres by Sunday afternoon whereas the danger level is 8.5 metres.
Thanks to heavy winds several trees and electric poles were uprooted and dozens of houses were damaged in different parts of the taluk.

At least four persons were injured when a huge tree fell on two moving vehicles on National Highway 75 near Narahari Hills on the outskirts of Kalladka town on Sunday.
A private bus plying from Kalladka to BC Road and a car moving in the opposite direction were damaged when heavy winds uprooted a huge roadside tree. Along with the mighty tree at least four electric poles were also uprooted causing power outage in the area.
The local residents pulled the injured persons out of the car and shifted them to hospital. The condition of one of the injured is said to be critical.

It took a couple of hours for the police to facilitate smooth flow of the vehicles on the road. Bantwal ASP Rahul Kumar visited the spot. He praised the selfless service of local youths who shifted the injured passengers stranded onboard the ill-fated car to hospital on time and helped clear the road.
