Mangalore, Apr 22: Ram Mandir is a symbol of prestige and self-esteem for the Hindus and should be built in Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Rama itself, observed RSS leader Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat during the Ramotsav celebrations held at Nehru Maidan on Sunday.
The three-day Ramotsav celebrations was organised by Vishwa Hindu Parishat, Bajarang Dal, Durga Vahini, Mathrumandali and Sri Ramotsav Samiti at Nehru Maidan.
Addressing the gathering on the final day of Ramotsav, Dr Bhat said that although foreigners came to India to study and learn the values and principles imbibed in Ramayana, Mahabharata and Bhagawad Gita, it is unfortunate that Hindus were unaware of it.
In his sermon, Sri Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji of Jain Mutt in Moodbidri said that everyone ought to read the Ramayana for mental, spiritual, social and cultural well-being.
The celebrations ended with the burning of Ravana's effigy in the maidan, followed by a splendid display of fireworks on the occasion.
President of Shri Ramotsava Samiti Pushparaj Jain welcomed the gathering. Krishnamurthy made the introductory remarks. Senior VHP leader Manohar Tulajaram was felicitated by the organising committees on the occasion.
MLC Monappa Bhandary, state president of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh Suresh Chandra Shetty, advocate Harish Poonja, VHP state vice-president Prof M B Puranik, Jagadish Shenava, Gopal Kuthar and Sharan Pumpwell were participated in the celebrations.
Prizes were also distributed to winners of various sports and games held during Ramotsav.
