Mangalore, February 20: In a dramatic development, Assistant Commissioner of Police of Mangalore Central Division, Ravindra Gadadi has been relived from his post and appointed as Special Duty Officer in the Commissioner's Office.
The move comes a day after Mr Gadai picked up former Mayor of Mangalore City Corporation K Ashraf for questioning in a case of sexual assault on a minor girl.
Brushing aside the rumours that Mr Gadai has been suspended for alleged incompetent handling of the sexual assault case, Commissioner of Police Seemanth Kumar Singh said that the ACP has been given new post in the head office of the Commissionerate.
On Sunday evening when the former Mayor was picked up by the ACP, a group of former's supporters, most of them Congress workers had staged a protest outside Mangalore North Police Station, which also houses the office of the ACP, where Ashraf was brought. Police had to resort to mild lathicharge to control the mob. Following the incident Mr Singh himself had visited the spot.
