Bengaluru, Oct 4: Officials of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the illegal iron ore case, has arrested businessman B V Srinivasa Reddy, who is a close associate for former Minister G Janardhan Reddy.

Mr. Srinivasa Reddy, owner of Sree Minerals, has been charged with forcibly taking over a mining company belonging to N. Shaikh Saab. Mr. Saab, the owner of Indian miners, had taken a lease from the government for undertaking mining activities in Sandur.

Investigations revealed that Mr. Janardhan Reddy, along with his associates K.M. Ali Khan and Mr. Srinivasa Reddy, forced Mr. Saab to hand over 75% of the company ownership to Mr. Ali Khan.

After obtaining the General Power of Attorney, the trio illegally extracted, transported and traded 1,48,383 tonnes of iron ore in a span of six months, from July to December 2009, according to SIT officials.
