The troubles started after Rafeena wanted her husband Syed Asif to undergo circumcision. But Asif was not willing for the medical procedure. As Asif was getting ready to go to his native town in Kerala, Rafeena reminded him about the circumcision.
This resulted in arguments and in a fit of rage, Syed attacked 32-year-old Rafeena with knife several times and fled from the scene. The woman succumbed to injuries. Rafeena was staying with her two children and mother-in-law Zinath Jaan.
Police said that the mother-in-law was away at a neighbour's house when the incident occurred. On hearing the sound in the house, 13-year-old Amrina Taaj, Rafeena's daughter, rushed and knocked on the room. However, Asif sent her back. Some time later, Amrina saw Asif coming out with blood-stained knife and marks all over his clothes. Police have seized the knife.
Besides Amrina, Rafeena, who was earlier married to Mohammed Asif, has a son Mohammed Rameez, (9) from the first marriage.
Giving details, police said Rafeena befriended Ranjith, a native of Iratti in Kannur district in Kerala and a relative of a shopkeeper near her house eight years ago. Ranjith was a manager at a lodge in his native place. She later moved to Kerala to live with Ranjith, leaving children under the care of her mother-in-law .
Six months ago, the two decided to relocate to Mysore and leased a house. Ranjith was shuttling between Mysore and Kerala.
