New Delhi, Jan 2: The RSS has silently dumped pracharak Rajeshwar Singh, the convenor of the Dharn Jagaran Samanway Samiti, who speaheaded the 'ghar wapsi' campaign in Uttarakhand and western UP.
The 'ghar wapsi' ceremony in Agra which he conducted caused uproar and led to the derailment of the Winter session of parliament.
As quoted in The Indian Express, Rajeshwar Singh said: “I have taken leave for a few months. I will rest and undergo treatment at the Arsh Gurukul in Etah (Uttar Pradesh). My new role will be decided in June after the Sangh Shiksha Varg, like every year (when postings and transfer of RSS pracharaks are made).” An RSS pracharak since 1971, he took charge of the Dhar Jagaran in 1996.
'Ghar wapsi' programmes which have been taking place covertly for decades were used to encourage people of other religions to return to hinduism, but only now have they been as brazen as the mass conversion programmes headed by Singh. Singh had also pledged to make India a Hindu Rashtra by December 31, 2021.
Sangh Parivar sources told Economic times that there was a fallout at a meeting between RSS leaders and Modi during which the PM is said to have expressed his annoyance at the high-decibel campaign that took the focus away from development and scuppered his government's ambitious legislative agenda.
