Mangaluru, Aug 11: A 36-year-old man, said to be a saffron activist, was arrested by the Mangaluru police for posting defamatory comments against Food and Civil Supplies Minister U.T. Khader on social media platform.
The accused is Divyaprasad a native of Hosamane, Daregudde in Moodbidri, who is currently a resident of Bengaluru. He was booked under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.
The arrest was made based on a complaint lodged a few days ago by Taluk Panchayat member Jabbar and two others with the Mangaluru East police station against the a post on Facebook defaming Khader.
The post was made using the visuals of “Hello Minister” programme of Suvarna Kannada news channel in which Mr. Khader answered several queries of people.
The police said following investigation they came to know that the post was made by Divyaprasad, who works as a supervisor in a hotel in ITPL in Benglauru.
A team of policemen from Mangaluru East police went to Bengaluru on Thursday and apprehended him. Prasad was produced before a city magistrate court here on Friday.
