Samcon lift glittering JF-Expertise Champions Trophy-2018

Al Jubail: JF-Expertise Champions Trophy 2018 was held at the floodlit Al Falah cricket stadium and the final match between Expertise and Samcon was played on Friday, 23rd February 2018. Both teams fought bravely for the title and gave maximum entertainment to cricket lovers of Eastern province.  At the end, Samcon won the final by showing clinical performance and lifted the JF-Expertise trophy for the first time.

Expertise won the toss and decided to bat first, Fawaz and Ansaf set a 25 runs partnership for the first wicket scoring 12 runs each. After losing a vital wicket of Fawaz, Saleem Angaragundi brought back glory to the innings with good support from Siddik and Sajid who made 17 runs from 7 balls at the end. After completion of their alloted 6 overs, Expertise set a tough target of 61 runs, losing 4 wickets. For Samcon Shafeek bagged 2 wickets who was the only successful bowler as the other 2 wickets were run outs.

Chasing a target of 61 runs in the allotted 6 overs, Star batsmen Muzair and Akhtar enthralled the spectators in their first 3 overs by attacking furious Expertise bowlers mercilessly. After the loss of Muzair's wicket Sahil joined Akhtar which led to a partnership of 20 runs and kept the momentum by playing defensively. However the Third part of the innings was totally dedicated to Sahil Karkala, his fierce batting by scoring 27 runs from just 7 balls brought Samcon to a victorious finish. For Expertise team Sajid and James took 1 wicket each. Sahil Karkala from Samcon awarded man of the match.

Prior to the mega finals the first semifinal was played between SASP v/s Samcon. SASP started the innings by batting first and scored 44 runs in their allotted 6 overs with tremendous help of Sudheer's 24 runs. Samcon chased the target of 44 runs in just 4 overs and gained victory In the match. Sahil Karkala again contributed a big score of 17 runs and was the highest scorer for Samcon.

The second semifinal was played between SR Engineering v/s Expetise. SR Engineering set a moderate target of 33 runs in allotted 6 over which chased by Expertise in just 4 over by the help of attacking innings of Althaf who scored 23 runs to take his team to finals.

Total 12 teams were participated in 2 days cricket mega tournament organized by Jam'iyyatul Falah Jubail unit with main sponsor Expertise contracting company and co-sponsors SR Engineering, Amaco, S.A. Technology, Saeed Computers, T-Net, Gulf Column, Al Muzain, Fahad Engineering, Cook Xon Rest., Shifa hospital, Energia. The Post match tournament closing ceremony presentation was started with recitation of verses of the holy Quran by Master Siyaf Saleem. And then PRAGATI – A Jamiyyatul  Falah production documentary video was played on the occasion to enhance JamiyyatulFalah's activities and achievements back home in Mangalore and Udupi. Sponsors and and well wishers applauded JF's revolution in the field of education with its main motto "EDUCATION IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS". Moderator of ceremony, JF Jubail unit's youth icon Muhammed Zayd Nasir Sheikh acquainted the gathering with success stories of JF who run Schools and colleges and award scholarships to needy children. JF currently has a bunch of students turning out to be lawyers, charted accountants, Doctors and Engineers fulfilling their own dreams and at the same time become great assets for JF with great social responsibilities. In next phase Zayd Nasir summoned JF Jubail unit president Mr. Nasir Ahmed Sheikh ,Chief guest Mr.K.S.Shaik (MD, M/s Expertise Contracting Company), recently elected Treasurer of Karnataka NRI forum(EP) including all guests and sponsors to the dias and the organizing committee honored them by presenting with  flower bouquets from kids. Dubai: A 15-year-old Indian expat boy drowned after he was caught by huge waves in the sea off Mamzar Beach in Dubai. 

Ahmed Abdulla Mafaz, a 15-year-old school student in Dubai, died while his sister Fathima, a university student, was rescued, according to their father Mohammed Ashraf. The family hails from Kerala’s Kasaragod.

The grieving father said the incident happened when the Indian expat family went for an outing at the beach park.

Recounting what happened, he said: “We were all sitting on the beach and playing around in the water. I had just gone to the washroom when it [the tragedy] happened.”

He said both Mafaz and Fathima knew how to swim and it was not clear how they were swept away.

“I think there were huge waves and they got pulled by the strong current.”

Fathima’s screams for help were heard by another beachgoer who rushed to rescue her. “He is an Arab national. He rescued our daughter. We have no words to thank him,” the father said.

However, there was no sign of Mafaz, a grade 10 student of New Indian Model School in Dubai.

Meanwhile, the police were called in. Dubai Police said they received a call about two persons drowning.

“As soon as we received the report, the rescue team from the Ports Police Station in Dubai conducted a search,” a spokesperson said. 

However, there was no luck on Friday night. The search operation was intensified with divers and drones on Saturday, following which the boy’s body was fished out on Saturday evening.

The family has decided to lay him to rest in Dubai once the legal procedures are over, said Ibrahim Berike, a member of the volunteering team from Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC) that is providing supportfor the paper work.

He said the family is shattered after the devastating tragedy. “They have four children. Fathima, who is doing MBA, is the eldest daughter. Mafaz was the third child. His other two siblings are also boys. Their mother, who was also there on the beach, is inconsolable,” he added.

Prominent NRI community leader SM Syed Khalilur Rehman, fondly known as CA Khalil, passed away in Dubai on Thursday at the age of 86 after a brief illness.

Khalil had been admitted to Aster Hospital in Mankhool on Tuesday after experiencing severe leg weakness. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, he succumbed to a double heart attack that worsened his condition, his son Rais Ahmed confirmed.

The news of his passing has sent waves of grief across communities, particularly in his hometown of Bhatkal, Karnataka, where he was a celebrated figure. Tributes have been pouring in on social media, highlighting his significant contributions to international trade, social service, and education.

A Legacy of Leadership and Service

A chartered accountant by profession, Khalil was a founding member of the Dubai chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), where he served as chairman from 1987 to 1994. His illustrious career included key leadership roles, such as general manager of Khaleej Times, group executive director of the Ilyas and Mustafa Galadari Group, and vice-chairman of the Jashanmal Group of Companies.

He also chaired Maadhyama Communications and Sahil Online, a web-based news platform, and was a director and trustee of several media companies and charitable organisations in Dubai and India.

A Champion for Education and Philanthropy

Khalil’s impact extended far beyond his professional achievements. As president and general secretary of Anjuman Hami-e-Muslimeen, he played a pivotal role in the development of educational institutions, including schools and colleges in Bhatkal and surrounding areas. His dedication to social upliftment earned him recognition from the Government of Karnataka, which honoured him with a prestigious award for his philanthropic contributions.

A Life Celebrated

The Bhatkal Muslim Khaleej Council (BMKC) recently released a documentary celebrating Khalil’s remarkable life and service to the community—a testament to his enduring legacy.

CA Khalil is survived by his family and countless admirers across the globe. His passing marks the end of an era for Indian expatriates in the UAE and beyond, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, generosity, and commitment to community service.
