Oct 24: Veteran Pakistan women's team all-rounder and former captain Sana Mir on Tuesday became the first-ever Pakistani player to top ICC Women's ODI rankings. She elevated to the top spot in the bowler rankings despite her team's 3-0 loss to Australia in the ICC Women's Championship series. However, her brilliant individual performance in the series reaped rewards for her in the latest rankings.

Mir returned with figures of  3/26, 1/37 and 3/53 respectively to jump to the top of ICC women's ODI bowling rankings with a career-high 663 points. She elevated three spots to overtake Marizanne Kapp of South Africa and Australian duo of Megan Schutt and Jess Jonassen to become the first from her country to achieve the remarkable feat.

Mir has been phenomenal for the Pakistan national women's team for the past few years. Despite her leading from the front, her team is languishing at the sixth spot in the ICC Women's Championship tournament. She took to Twitter to thank everyone who has been involved in her career and had a special word of thanks for coach Mark Coles, who she said picked her in the side for her skills and not her age.

"This is a team effort of support staff and players who have helped me excel," Mir said on Twitter. "I would also like to thank ICC for providing us regular opportunities to play with the big teams through ICC women Championship and to coach Mark Coles, who chose to look at my skill rather than my age," she was quoted as saying by ICC.

The all-rounder has been in splendid form in the ongoing  2017–20 ICC Women's Championship, where she is the highest wicket-taker for Pakistan with 24 wickets in nine matches at a stunning average of 12.75. She would be looking to continue her fine form with the ball in the competition and help Pakistan improve their rankings.
