The victim's wife Rajeshwari and body-builder son Navneeth Shetty, who were taken into custody for interrogation, have reportedly confessed to the brutal murder.

Proprietor of Udupi's Hotel Durga International, 52-year-old Bhaskar Shetty was running a business in Saudi Arabia and often used to visit the kingdom. He had handed over the responsibility of managing hotel in Udupi to his wife Rajeshwari.

It is learnt that a quarrel had erupted between the husband and wife over the financial misappropriation by the latter and she had also slapped him in the hotel a month ago. According to sources, she was trying to become the owner of the hotel and keep her husband completely away.

Two days after the mysterious disappearance of the businessman his mother had lodged a missing complaint on July 30 with Manipal police station. The complainant had suspected that his wife and son might have kidnapped him. Hence police had taken the duo into custody.

It is learnt that on August 5 Navneeth Shetty confessed that he along with his mother murdered his father with the help of Niranjan Bhat, a priest on August 28, when the victim had visited the home.

Police sources said that the murderers took the dead body to Nandalike village in Karkala and burnt it to ashes. Later, the ashes and the materials used for a precautionary homa' were packed in gunny backs and thrown into a stream by the priest. Police have managed to recover some of such gunny bags, sources said.

Apparently, Navneet is a very ardent follower of Crime Patrol programme on TV. If people can raise fingers at Zakir Naik, and ban him and his teachings, and probe into his involvement in terrorism, then in this case, the channel and producers of Crime Patrol should also be charged with the same. I wonder where Arnab Goswami is hiding now!

Udupi, Jan 27: A bomb threat sent shockwaves through a private school in Udupi, prompting immediate action from the authorities. Students, staff, and parents were thrown into a state of alarm after receiving an alarming email that triggered safety protocols.

The threat was quickly reported to the police, who deployed teams to investigate. Security checks and thorough inspections were carried out to ensure the safety of everyone on the premises.

According to Vincent D’Costa, Principal of Sharada Residential School, the email warned of a potential attack with a bomb targeting the school. It read: “Evacuate the minority students immediately. On this holy day, your school will be victims of the twin pipe IED blast. This is to commemorate the unfair hanging of Afzal Guru and the incident involving Anna University Professor Chithrakala Gopalan. We aim to reach heaven through this tragic event. We will be the ones activating the devices today.”

In response, Principal D’Costa reassured the media, saying, “Upon receiving the email, we immediately notified the relevant authorities, and security measures have been strengthened. Our students come from various parts of the country, so we are always vigilant. There is no cause for fear, and we stand united with the police in ensuring the safety of everyone.”

The incident led to a gathering of worried parents and guardians at the school, anxiously awaiting updates and reassurance regarding the situation.

Mangaluru, Jan 28: The cricketing community of Mulki on the outskirts of Mangaluru, is mourning the untimely demise of 41-year-old Mansoor Mulki, a cherished member of the 7-Star cricket team. On January 26, Mansoor tragically suffered a cardiac arrest while driving in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, leaving his family, friends, and fans in shock.

Hailing from the Bappa Byari Doddamanai family, Mansoor was not just a skilled cricketer but also an active member of the Manish Youth Club. Known for his warm personality, he had a touching conversation with his mother over the phone just 15 minutes before the fatal incident, a memory that now resonates deeply with his grieving family.

His sudden passing has left a void in the lives of his mother, wife, and three daughters. Plans are in place for the funeral rites to be conducted in Saudi Arabia, where Mansoor had been working for the past 15 years.

Amid the sorrow, his employer, Siraj, a businessman from Hejamady, has taken on the responsibility of ensuring all arrangements for Mansoor’s family. Recently returning to Saudi Arabia from India, Siraj is facilitating travel and formalities for Mansoor’s mother, wife, daughters, and brother-in-law so they can bid their final goodbyes.

This tragedy has not only left a family in grief but also a community that cherished Mansoor as a friend, mentor, and cricketing icon.

kadabaaccident.jpg

Kadaba, Jan 18: In a heartrending incident, a 16-year-old student lost his life on Friday, January 18, after the motorbike he was riding skidded off the road and plunged into a culvert on the Dharmasthala–Mardhala–Subrahmanya state highway near Gargaspal, Peradka.

The accident spot falls under the Noojibaltila gram panchayat in Kadaba taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.

The victim, Ashish, a tenth-grade student from a private school in Peradka, was the beloved son of Vishwanath of Hosamane Kaana in Noojibaltila village. His untimely demise has left his parents and sibling in profound grief.

The accident occurred during Ashish’s routine commute to school. Despite the swift intervention of a local resident, Sridhar, who rushed him to a private hospital in Kadaba, medical efforts could not save him. A case has been registered at the Kadaba police station.

The culvert where the accident happened has long been criticized by locals for its flawed and unsafe design. Numerous accidents have reportedly occurred at this spot, prompting repeated appeals from residents for immediate rectification. Community members have once again called upon authorities to prioritize repairs to prevent further tragedies.

Responding to the incident, Kadaba tahsildar Prabhakar Khajure underscored the importance of curbing underage driving. He directed the police department to take stringent action against minors found operating vehicles and cautioned parents about the serious consequences of providing vehicles to underage children.

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the pressing need for both infrastructural improvements and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to safeguard young lives.
