Besides Mohammed Ayoob Kannur, seven others identified as Hussain Ahmed Kudroli, Riyaz Ahmed, residents of the city, Yousuf Mohammed Shafi, Nasir Mohammed from Ullal, Mohammed Ashraf, resident of Surathkal, Faiz Ahmed of Bajpe, and Mohammed Sharif, a resident of BC Road were jailed based on a complaint from Saudi Telecom Company for passing and routing telecom calls illegally in Saudi Arabia nine years ago. Understanding the miserable plight of these young men and their poor families, India Fraternity Forum plunged into action and sought the help and support of Consulate General of India, Jeddah. The poor family members of eight accused had no other choice but pleading with the governments and also to pool money to help these youngsters in jail and bring them back to their homes. All the eight accused belonged to poor families. They had submitted several memoranda to the successive external affairs ministers and MPs from Karnataka requesting high-level support for their release. IFF office bearers often used to meet the helpless families and update about the case.
Meanwhile, IFF was able to ensure the support of a philanthropist Saudi national, who was ready to spare his valuable time and made use of his contacts to ensure the release of Ayoob, one of the eight jailed youth, with payment to STC. Coastaldigest.com does not reveal the name of this Saudi national, who wants to remain anonymous.
