Malpe/Ullal, Jun 14: The sea erosion which was common in Ullal and surrounding areas in Dakshina Kannada distrct, has shifted its course to Malpe and surrounding areas in Udupi district for the last two days.

Several trees and a compound wall were washed away and at least 3 houses were damaged in the sea waves in difference parts of Udupi. Sea erosion has increased near the Bhajana Mandira, local sources said.

According to local fishermen this year 's sea erosion is severe compared to last ten years. “I have not seen such strong waves in last two decades,” said, Shashidhara, a fisherman in Malpe. Another fisherman explained the flatness of Malpe beach had led to large waves making its way towards the shore.

At the Malpe beach itself, the sea has extended by about 100 metres, and has come close to lashing the umbrella-like structures created out of eco-friendly materials.

Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj, who paid a visit to the beach, directed the Executive Engineer of Department of Ports and Fisheries T.S. Rathod to take steps to prevent further damage.

Meanwhile, there was no respite from the constant pounding of the sea for those at the areas hit by sea erosion in Ullal.

At least six members of Iddinabba family at Qiliyarinagar were seen using buckets to pump out the water that had seeped in during the periods of high tide on Friday.

While Summer Sands Resort had lost a building to the advancing waves, an open air-auditorium dangles precariously as the high tide digs out the stones from its foundation. However, the Ports Department has commenced the dumping of boulders between CAICO factory and Ullal Beach – between which the resort lies – to protect the land from being eaten away.

Mangaluru: In a chilling incident that has raised suspicions of foul play, a 35-year-old man was discovered dead inside a train coach traveling from Bengaluru to Murudeshwar.

The deceased, identified as Mouzzan from Kumbarpete, Doddaballapur, worked as a sales representative and was differently-abled. He boarded the train on October 24 from Yesvantpur and occupied the Divyang Coach.

The incident came to light on the morning of October 25 at Udupi, where a railway guard found Mouzzan unresponsive. The railway police immediately rushed him to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead.

With no identification documents on him, the police utilized a label, “RS Tailor Chickpete,” found on his shirt collar to trace his family through WhatsApp, helping his relatives reach Mulki by Saturday.

Upon inspection, police noticed ligature marks around Mouzzan’s neck, hinting at possible foul play. His family reported that his bag and mobile phone were missing, raising further suspicion.

The last known location of his phone was traced to Sakleshpur, suggesting he may have been targeted during the journey. Investigators suspect robbery as a motive and are now actively pursuing leads, with searches underway in Mysuru and Bengaluru.

A case has been filed at Mulki police station, and efforts to uncover the truth behind this tragic incident are intensifying as police work to piece together the circumstances that led to Mouzzan’s untimely death.
