Addressing media persons at a press meet in Mangalore, Mr. Karanth defended the 'protest' carried out by some of the members belonging to his organization at a homestay in Padil where young boys and girls were manhandled.
“True, our members were there but they went there to protest. They could not tolerate the injustice and exploitation of women that is being done by certain vested interests. There is a huge sex mafia behind this. Sex tourism has made its way into Mangalore. These people have money and want place and opportunities to enjoy which they are trying to find in Mangalore. But the district administration and police have turned a blind eye to these developments”, he said.
Stating that the district administration has a responsibility towards the society, Mr. Karanth said that all illegal spas, pubs, homestays and resorts should be closed down. CCTV cameras should be installed in homestays and all people who come to use it must be made to submit documents, identity proofs along with photographs, to make sure that no prostitution and criminal activities take place in homestays.
Mr. Karanth also said that if the girls had really just been part of a birthday party and were assaulted for no reason, they should have come forward and lodged complaints against the assaulters.
