Udupi, Mar 7: There are at least four strong contenders for the Congress ticket from the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru parliamentary constituency in the upcoming polls, according to Women and Child Development Minister Jaimala.
Speaking to presspersons after a Karnataka Development Programme meeting here on Wednesday, Ms. Jaimala said that the four Congress aspirants were Vinay Kumar Sorake, Pramod Madhwaraj, both former Ministers, Arathi Krishna, former Deputy Chairman of State NRI Forum, and Vijay Kumar, president of Chikkamagaluru District Congress Committee.
Asked if she was an aspirant for the Dakshina Kannada parliamentary seat, Ms. Jaimala said that she was not an aspirant for the seat. AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal had not spoken to her on this issue, she said.
Whether she would contest from Dakshina Kannada parliamentary seat if the party asked her to do so, Ms. Jaimala said that she was a disciplined soldier of the party. She would do what the party asked her to do. But she was certain that she would not be asked to contest, she said.
To another query, Ms. Jaimala made it clear that she was not an aspirant for the Congress ticket for the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru seat either.
