Sowmya Kamath selected for Ph.D in Space Science at Stanford University

Mangalore, Sep 20: Sowmya Kamath from Mangalore has secured admission to Stanford University, USA, to pursue Ph.D studies in space science. She has joined the university last week.

This opportunity to pursue doctoral studies in this venerable institution will provide a great boost to her brilliant academic career which includes being awarded with the coveted gold medal for being the topper in Physical Science at Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram (Asia's first Space University which functions as an autonomous body under the Department of Space, Government of India) and the experience of working as a Junior Scientist at Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad, the national Research Institute for space and allied sciences founded by Dr. Vikram Sarabhai and a subsidiary of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

An alumnus of St Agnes Institutions and Canara PU College, Ms Kamath is the daughter Mrs Shantha and Mr Surathkal Srinivas Kamath of Pound Garden, Kadri, Mangalore.

Stanford University, situated in California, is one of the most prestigious institutions in the world.
