Sringeri, Jan 24: Kuppa Venkateshwara Prasad Sharma was rechristened as Vidhushekhara Bharati by Dakshinamnaya Sringeri Sri Shree Sharada Peetha seer Bharati Theertha Swami and was appointed the successor of the Peetha, on Friday.

During the proceedings that started with the sacred fire rituals at Narasimha Vana at 7 am, as a part of his entry into his sanyasa, Venkateshwara Prasad Sharma sacrificed the holy thread, 'shikha' and 'shwetha vastra' to the waters of River Tunga. Bharati Theertha Swami gave him danda, kamandala and the kashaya vastram. Later, both the seers visited the Adhisthana of the earlier seers and paid their obeisance.

The elder seer gave ‘Pranavopadesham’ and ‘Mahavakyopadesham’ to his successor. The new seer performed the ‘Paryanka showcha’ ritual at a specially designed boat in Tunga river.

Bharati Theertha Swami performed the pooja after placing a saligrama on the head of the new seer. The successor was rechristened by Bharati Theertha as Vidhushekhara Bharati, which contains the part of the names of earlier seers Chandrashakhara Bharati and Abhinava Vidya Theertha.

Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati performed the paada pooja of his Guru, after which the devotees paid their obeisance to both the seers. The seers later visited all the temples on the premises of the mutt. In the evening, Bharati Theertha?Swami and Vidhushekhara Bharati delivered spiritual discourses. They were taken on golden and silver palanquins after 9 pm.

Mangaluru, June 18: A much-needed move towards digitisation in the private bus sector in Dakshina Kannada district will likely be witnessed.

In an initiative spearheaded by the Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners’ Association (DKBOA), private buses will soon accept UPI payments from passengers, aiming to enhance convenience and efficiency of bus travel in the coastal region.

This is the second transport system after KSRTC to digitise ticketing system in Karnataka.

As part of an upgrade, private buses will also be equipped with GPS systems, allowing for real-time tracking and improved service management. The introduction of UPI payment options will enable passengers to purchase tickets online during their journey, streamlining the ticketing process.

Previously, private bus operators introduced the 'Chalo Cashless Cards', which has been well received by commuters for offering significant discounts.

In a media interaction, Association president Aziz Parthipady noted the success of 'Chalo Cards', which offer a 60 per cent fare discount to students and are distributed free of charge to those with valid identification.

'Chalo Cards' are prepaid bus travel cards available from designated offices throughout Mangaluru, making it easy for students to benefit from discounted fares.

According to the new update with the UPI option being introduced, the 'Chalo Cards' held by students would be continued as DKBOA Student Cards.

With this upgrade on the cards, the Dakshina Kannada District Bus Owners' Association is trying to improve the overall travel experience while ensuring the highest standards of passenger safety across all its operations.

Mangaluru, June 16: Muslims in Mangaluru observed Eid al-Adha today by offering prayers in mosques and Eidgahs, exchanging greetings, and sacrificing animals, as the monsoon rain took a break in the region.

Congregational Eid prayers were held in dozens of mosques across the city. Thousands of Muslims gathered at the Masjids and Eidgahs early in the day. Hundreds of women and children also participated in prayers at some of the Masjids. Special 'dua' was offered for peace in the country and around the world, including Gaza.

Dressed in new clothes, Muslims visited their relatives' houses, where they were treated with special sweet dishes. Platters of a variety of delicious cuisines were prepared in Muslim households.

Children in festival attire added color to the celebrations. People wished each other Eid Mubarak and hugged as a large number of photographers captured the poignant scenes of the festival prayers and greetings.

In their Eid sermons, Khateebs exhorted the believers to follow the ideals of Prophet Ibraheem (pbuh), who had decided to sacrifice his son Prophet Ismaeel (pbuh) as ordained by Allah.

Eid al-Adha is an occasion of joy and peace, where people celebrate with their families, let go of past grudges, and make meaningful connections with one another. It commemorates Prophet Ibraheem’s willingness to sacrifice everything for God.
