Mangalore, Feb 13: The Postgraduate Department of English of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangalore will be organizing a one day national level seminar on 'Translation: A Transcreation' on February 17, 2014.
Dr A Lourdusamy, Chairman of the department in a press release said that the second annual endowment lecture will be delivered during the seminar by Dr K S Antonysamy, Associate Professor, Department of English, Loyola College, Chennai. He will speak on 'Challenges of English Language Learning and Teaching in New Millennium.'
He said in today's multi-lingual and multi-cultural globe, the translator has a vital role to play as he transcends boundaries of language, culture and nations. This emerging genre thus needs to be popularised.
The seminar is aimed at creating awareness of translation and its growing influence.
The seminar will commence at 9.30 a.m. in the Eric Mathais Hall of the P.G Block.
The Rector of St Aloysius Institutions, Rev Fr Denzil Lobo SJ will preside over the function.
Rev Fr. Swebert D'Silva SJ, the principal of St Aloysius College (Autonomous) will be present.
Dr V Sangeetha, Associate Professor and Head in Charge, Department of English, Periyar University, Salem will speak on 'Translation: A Global Perspective' and Prof K.S. Bhagavan, Retired Professor in English, Mysore University and Shakespearean translator will speak on 'Problems in Transcreating Shakespeare.'
More than hundred audiences are expectedfrom Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Goa and West Bengal including students, research scholars and academicians. Around 33 research papers will be presented by the delegates.
The valedictory is at 4.30 pm at the same venue. Rev Fr. Dr Leo D'Souza SJ, the Director of Applied Biology Laboratory, St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) will be the chief guest.
