Surathkal, Nov 28: Police have arrested two persons who were attempting to steal goats, cows in broad daylight, from Surathkal area and seized one car, one bike and a mobile phone belonging to them.
Muhammad Riyaz (22) and Sharief (21) from Thodar in Moodbidri are the arrested. The two have been taking away cattle, sheep and even chicken from the vicinity and have been supplying the same to the slaughter houses, said the police.
On November 23, at about 2.45 pm, the duo had lifted 5 sheep from Katipalla area and supplied to slaughter houses. The owner of the livestock lodged a complaint with Surathkal police station and also informed the police about the registration number of the car in which animals were taken.
The witnesses said that while a Maruti Swift car used to be parked at a distance, a man on bike used to inspect the area and if there are no threats, he used to herd the sheep towards the car, put them in the car and leave the spot.
However, the car that was used to lift animals from Surathkal was a rented car and as per the information given by the owner of the car, the two were arrested from their residence in Moodbidri.
The duo said that since they were scared of being beaten in public for lifting cattle, they started stealing sheeps and goats.
However, there are several cases of cattle lifting already filed against Muhammad Riyaz at Moodbidri police station.
While the police say that there are several people involved in the same, the life led by the two was nothing less than a luxurious one. It is said that the duo had lifted over 100 sheep and goats in just one month.
