Mysuru, Dec 22: The death toll in the prasadam poison conspiracy at Sulwadi villgage in Chamarajanagara district rose to 17 with the death another person in a city hospital here today.
The police have already arrested four accused in the case including Immadi Mahadeva Swamy, junior seer of Salur Mutt at MM Hills.
The other three accused are Madesha, temple manager, his wife Ambika (who is said to be paramour of Mahadeva Swamy) and another priest Doddaiah.
The Prasad distributed to over 100 devotees at Kicchugatti Maramma temple at Sulwadi was poisoned on December 14. According to police, the plot to poison the devotees was hatched by the seer Immadi Mahadeva Swami oust a temple trustee and wrest control of funds. At the seer’s behest, his lover, her husband and the priest of a nearby temple poisoned the prasad.
Several people are still battling for life after consuming the poisonous Prasadam. Today one Rangan (45) from Doreswamy Medu village in Hanur taluk died despite treatment by hospital staff. He was on ventilator support since last nine days. The body would be handed over to the family after post mortem, police said.
