According to police sources, a 56-year-old man, identified as Shami Abdul Khader, allegedly tried to molest a minor girl sitting next to him on the bus. The police nabbed the accused soon after the girl lodged a complaint.
The protesters, who turned up in large numbers on Monday, demanded the police to take stringent against the accused without yielding to any pressure.
Addressing the protesters Ratnakar Hegde said that the peaceful resident of the town and Udupi district would no longer tolerate the crimes committed against Hindus.
“We are peace lovers. But, that doesn't mean that we are cowards. We know to teach an unforgettable lesson to those who create problems in the society,” he said alleging the police department of failing to curb down crime against Hindu girls and Hindu society.
Santosh Kumar, another protester, speaking on the occasion said that cases of molestation of Hindu girls have been increasing in coastal Karnataka. “If police cannot control the minorities, who are trying to spoil the society, we know what to do with them,” he warned.
