Mangaluru, Jun 29: Three youth who set out to make a payment were attacked by a gang of miscreants without any provocation and robbed of Rs 15,000 in Tadambail near Surathkal on Sunday afternoon.
The youth who were assaulted have been identified as Haider (20), Shawid (20) and Mohammed Arafat (21), all residents of Idya. Out of the three victims, Haider is said to have been seriously injured and was admitted to a private hospital in Surathkal.
One of the victim Shawid's elder brother Haneef ran a workshop in Tadambail and had employed few persons to help him in the workshop.
The complaint lodged at Suratkal police station states, Shawid and his two friends had gone to Tadambail to hand over the cash as payment for the help his brother had employed.
While waiting for them near Marigudi temple, a gang of six persons belonging to another community arrived and were irked by the presence of Muslim community youth in the area. Then, the gang assaulted Haider, Shawid and Arafat with rods and stones and made off with the sum of Rs 15,000 after the assault.
The complaints also claimed that the assailants used abusive words against them and their religion.
It is alleged that a woman waiting for a bus in the area who witnessed the assault and raised her objection, was also assaulted by the gang of six persons.
A case has been registered in this regard at the Suratkal police station.
